| When Nir Meiri first told me of his next adventure, I didn’t know what to expect. Sand molded lamp sounded like a crazy idea that I had to see for myself. SO, the day has come and… “The use of sand as the main material plays on the tension between its wild nature – that of sand storms and vast desserts– and the delicacy of the molded end design. Despite their apparent fragility, the bulbs are sturdy, and their strength partners with that of the fixture’s metal pole.” BTW, “Desert Storm” is now on show at Qubique Berlin. Did I mention I LOVE the name of the lamp?

The world definitely needs a lot more geometric rings! Don’t you agree? After seeing Tami Eshed’s graduation project and her set of rings I know someone has heard my prayers ;) I guess all that is left to do is try them in person, better sooner than later. You should visit Tami’s geometric forest if you dig straight lines as much as I do. There is a lot more than just rings but… I have to leave some room for your curiosity. FYI, Tami is a 2011 graduate of the Jewelry Design Department at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design. www.tamieshed.com
I’ve been counting the days till the people behind the Design Museum Holon roll up the curtains for the 2011 Fashion week and today is the day. You can read about it right here. The visuals that go hand in hand with the campaign are one of the most eye catching and intriguing I’ve seen around here! Having the influence of the digital age on the design world in mind, Guy Saggee and Maayan Levitzky, used only a utility Knife to create “new magazines”, where the main visual is made of lots of layers and meanings. BTW, Guy is known as the foxy Shual design studio. {Pics by Amit Israeli}
I’ve been meaning to write about Zofnat Ozeri’s intriguing creatures for a while but… nature has its course. She just gave birth to her little baby and I had to anxiously wait. Zofnat’s graduation project at the Textile Design Department of Shenkar College of Engineering and Design is one of those projects that you keep on thinking of… All I know for sure is that life under the sea was the endless source of inspiration for this hard working girl. - I couldn’t narrow it down to five pics… Hope you don’t mind ;) {Photos by Dadi Elias} You can get in touch with Zofnat here: gilzofnat {at} gmail {dot} com
Kobi Levi. You might not know his name but there is no way on earth you don’t know his out of this world shoes! Just the other day, I decided to check what’s new in his crazy kingdom and I discovered his super creative “Birds Series”. The way he turned this ordinary heel into a bird’s beak is major! I can’t stop staring… Get your own piece of access to Kobi’s world in his blog. I know I keep coming back :) BTW, you can read my One One One with this mega designer right here.You can get in touch with Kobi here: kobilvi {at} 012 {dot} net {dot} il
Last week I visited the “Israeli Glass 2011″ exhibition. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect but… I was blown away by the mad talent! So many brilliant and out of the box ideas executed beautifully and with a sensitive eye for the smallest details. I have to mention Roi Carmeli’s “One Game Only” video. You have to spare 02:13 minutes of you time. Trust me, you’ll thank me later! Oh… and the mastermind behind it all is the curator Henrietta Eliezer Brunner. - My instagram madness is the one responsible for all these pictures.
Tamar Kodman Garcia and Yodfat Sternreich know a thing or two about motherhood, family and in between. The two decided there is room for a breeze of fresh air in the Israeli design scene, so they mixed natural materials with clean lines and modern simplicity. Their first attempt as a duo was knitting cushion seats for the little ones and I think they nailed it! It looks SO smart and playful. Just one more thing, if you can think of anything your child would like, don’t hesitate to contact the two. They are up for the challenge! I dare you to try ;) At the moment TAYO has just a facebook page but soon enough the website will be up and running. {A DesignBreak by Gili Ungar}
Tamar Branitzky is one of these gifted designers who knows how to stand out. At this moment, I can’t think of another textile designer who reinvents herself time ofter time. Under the bright red lipstick is a hard working and driven designer. In Tamar’s “Stained journey”, she let her imagination and emotion run wild. The outcome is a series of collages and hand drawings that comes to life in a form of mesmerizing chiffon scarfs. Like a work of art, you can find only a limited number of copies. {Photos by Roi Mizrahi} www.tamarbranitzky.com
Paula Gaviria is quite a mystery… I can’t find any information about her. I guess she decided to let her jewelery do the talking and I can’t blame her. This Colombian native got some serious talent! Her statement necklaces won me over, the minute I laid my eyes on them. Paula, if you hear me, wherever you are, please create some more beauty. You can’t leave me like this with only a handful of your drop dead gourges creations! On a side note, if anyone can recognize the font Paula used on her website I’ll be forever grateful. {DesignBreak found Paula here} {This is a Colombian World Break} www.paulagaviria.es
For her brand new collection, Morgan Mallett aka Design + Conquer Jewelery, followed the beat of electronic music. How brilliant is that! I can imagine Morgan dancing around her studio, transforming her dance moves into work of art. Who can argue with the sound of music mixed with neon touch?! And the most exciting part is that each and every piece is inspired by a specific track. Heck yeah! I’m gonna have a look at some of Morgan’s music choices. God knows I have zero understanding in electronic music. BTW, I was introduced to Morgan’s world in boticca.com. {This is a Canadian World Break} www.designandconquerjewellery.com
It happened once before so why not again. Coming your way are two posts about only one designer! As of now, Morgan Mallett the wicked gal behind Design + Conquer, is the one to beat. Graphic designers, who make the transition into the world of accessories, are my heroes! And as one of those, Morgan brings so much versatility and awesomeness to the table. As I see it, coming from the graphic design world gives her a great advantage! I got so excited that I didn’t mention my massive crush on the colors, shapes… well, all of it, from beginning to end! {This is a Canadian World Break} www.designandconquerjewellery.com
From time to time there is nothing wrong with splurging, right? Well, I’m not sure if my wallet will be happy to hear about my latest wishlist. Who am I kidding, I can only dream of having one of Dark Cloud Silver‘s music miniatures as my own. It takes me back in time, when as a little girl I wore my favorite miniature cookie monster as a pendent (I had an exquisite taste back in the day :) You can get your own tiny treasure at oyemodern.com, a house for many Australian designers. BTW, the mystery man behind it all is the wonder boy, Nathan Thomas. {This is an Australian World Break} www.darkcloudsilver.com
I think it’s time to explore what’s going on outside the Israeli pond. So, this week I’m gonna introduce you to some of my favorite designers from around the glob. - Did you know one can grow metal on feathers? Well, I kid you not! Margaret Hinge has all the answers. In her Etsy Shop you’ll find a sea of feathers for you to choose from. {A DesignBreak by Ruta Reifen} {This is an American World Break} You can get in touch with Margaret here: mhinge {at} risd {dot} edu
Just the other day, I mentioned to a friend of mine that I dress basic, I’m just fine with simple basic clothes but then… the accessories that I wear is a whole different story. There is nothing basic about them. As I see it, I want them to be the center of attention :) With that being said, Rachel Wightman, aka notTuesday is kill.ing.it with her color combos and simple shapes. Sometimes all you need is just the right dash of colors mixed with the perfect shapes and Voilà you are set. On a side not, the fact that Rachel is an Aussie gave her some extra sepcial points. {This is an Australian World Break} www.nottuesday.com.au
