World Break | Isabel Dammermann | Stone Temple Pilots
You all know by now (at least I hope you do) that I have a girl crush on Lital Mendel… I only tell you this cause I think I found my next girl crush (Hi, Isabel Dammermann!) Both Lital and Isabel like to collect stones (or make things look like ones) and other random materials and transform them in their own unique way into the most appealing piece of jewelry. If it was up to me, I would play a match maker for a day and make this match made in the accessories heaven. Do you think I should try?

Romi Hefetz | Little Brown Ceramic Bag
I’m a huge fan of Romi Hefetz ever since I found out about her existence. AND… when you love someone you keep waiting for more and more… SO, after wanting and waiting for new developments to come from the Hefetz HQ, I’m super excited to share with you Romi’s new paper plants. There is something quite simple yet elegant in the way Romi approaches working with clay and the end result is one pretty ceramic party.

PS. The Envelope series is not too shabby as well!

Leah Lerner | Black and White Jungle
Leah Lerner arrived to Tel Aviv 3 years ago and right there and then she decided to launch her very own brand. Ballzy? I guess so, smart? SURE THING! With her own patterns and hand screen prints, Leah’s leather bags are making their way straight into my heart. You know how much I adore statement accessories and with these super fine prints there is no way that I’ll be missed walking down the street! Her black and white prints are my absolute favs and maybe it’s because I’ve been looking for my next black bag for a while now. You can read a lot more about Leah’s journey and have a sneak peek into her world at the Etsy’s Featured Shop.

Tami Bar-Lev | The Mad Hatter
I’m not that much into hats HOWEVER, when I see a cake like hat, it’s a whole different story! Tami Bar-Lev, a hat designer (yes, there is a hat designer here in Israel!) whom I should have known about a long long time ago designed this super crazy hat for the Happily Ever After exhibition that closed back in October. I know, I know, I’m a bit behind but like the saying goes, better late then sorry. Right? So… back to Tami and her out of this world fluffy, dreamy, yummy hat. I know nothing about Tami but I’m gonna fix this fatal error in no time. To be continued…

World Break | Zuppa Atelier | Black Ink and a Dash of Color
Something in the way Julia Dely illustrates reminds me of my favorite childhood books. It’s not that easy to take you back in time with only an illustration… Times in which everything was Innocent and not so complicated. Times in which all you had to do is decide if you want to play in the sand box or read a book… Anyways, Julia’s Zuppa Atelier is a place in which I find the inner child in me. Her sensitive illustrations find a home in these white and welcoming tableware. A lot of black ink and a dash of color, that’s the right combination in my book!

Ugly Duckling | Illustrated Lace
There is something quite endearing in approaching a catalog and finding out that it is illustrated.
This is exactly what happened when I found out about the collaboration between fashion designer Gal Angel (aka Ugly Duckling) and illustrator Hagar Wertheim (aka 1 hug a day), one of my new exciting revelation of this year (and a new friend!)
Gal who usually designs swimsuits designed a collection of super fine laced underwear and Hagar helped her with her illustrated skills to style and make every little thing feel cozy and wintery.
What can I say, let it snow!

Mora Dimerman | Fragile Crochet Beauties
  • Clara Necklace
  • Luna Necklace
  • Lea Necklace
  • Lucia Necklace
  • Ethel Necklace
Can you imagine how long it takes to crochet a necklace? I certainly can’t!
At first Mora Dimerman experimented with cotton and wool while knitting soft and pretty accessories. From there she worked her way to mixing embroidery threads with silver and gold and now… with her new collection, she only uses gold and silver threads (!!!) It’s a crazy, crazy thing but I guess you got to do what you got to do, or in Mora’s case you just do what you were born to do!

BTW, I adore the fact that each and every necklace is named after a Latin or Hebrew name!

Nir Meiri | Metal or Concrete?
Nir Meiri (yes I’m talking to you), let’s set the record straight: I don’t think that it’s even possible for me not to write about each and every one of your creations. You are that good. There, I said it!
Now that I got it out of my system, I can tell you about Nir’s sleek new table lamp. In his Spot lamp, Nir drew inspiration “from industrial images such as a crane, a spot light, or a street lamp…” and it’s base is made out of metal or concrete. Something in this design reminds me of Nir’s Deseret Storm. Do you see the connection or am I hallucinating?

World Break | RIEN | Bags in Heaven
I if had all the money in the world, I would start my shopping spree at RIEN, there is no question about it! And to think I wouldn’t have known about it without the sweetest girl alive aka Ada Alti uploading this one life changing picture to her Instagram (YES, once again I should thank the gods of Instagram!). I see no point in writing any further, after all I’m sure all you really want and need to do is head to Penny Vomva’s magical kingdom and start adding each and every bag to your wish list. I guess we are lucky that there is still time before Christmas…

A Typographer in The Making | Take Two

As I mentioned earlier today, Liron Lavi Turkenich will be joining me here on DesignBreak every other Tuesday and share with us her typographic journey and more. It’s been a long time dream of mine to get a back stage peek to a Master degree student’s life and Liron was super nice to let me (and you) tag along. I’m sure it’s going to be quite a ride and I can’t wait to find out more about this super sweet and mega talented designer.
FYI, Liron just opened her very own blog in which she is documenting her adventures and you should check it out for yourself. It’s a real treat!
Liron, take it from here!
{Photos by Liron Lavi Turkenich}

Trying to cut letters in stone and hoping that the reason that I’m not very good at it is because I’m left handed. Figuring out my own method of washing hands with two separate British taps. Deciding on designing Amharic as well as Hebrew and Latin, and not saying anymore “English letters” but “Latin letters”. Walking around London every weekend. Finding normal coffee, drinking normal coffee, drinking lots of tea, not understanding the whole “milk with tea” idea. Doing an Arabic type workshop, Indian type workshop and learning about chocolate letters in the Netherlands. Standing in a room full of rain in the Barbican and smiling to myself. Knowing that there are many good ice cream spots in London but always finding myself in the same one. Knowing that there are many good things to eat in Shoreditch but always finding myself eating the same Ethiopian Injera. Being sad for not having a supermarket in a walking distance and discovering the time saved by ordering groceries online. Needing sunlight. Needing better gloves. Starting to sketch letters, trying to figure out the Glyphs application. Going around in circles, taking out typeface specimens from the 19th century, amazing reading materials, rare magazines and being in awe of all the amazing things around me. Department Reading room, University library, special collections in Merl. Touching really old typography, paper, letters in Michael Twyman‘s class. I still can’t believe I’m here. I’m in a minus 3 degrees heaven.

Guest Break | A Typographer in The Making | Take One
The minute I laid my eyes on Liron Lavi Turkenich’s graduation project (I immediately grilled her with my not so pretty interrogation methods), I knew in my heart that she must be part of my DB journey and so… A few months later, Liron took a direct flight to London and from there straight to Reading. To make a long story short, from now on Liron will be sharing with us her special journey in becoming a student (again), typographer, designer, Brit, traveler and many other things that we’ll discover along the way.
So, buckle up and enjoy the ride!
Liron’s first post will be coming your way later today and every other Tuesday.

World Break | Samuel Ansbacher | Take a Bow
Spring Vase. I like the sound of that!
I’m so over winter and if I could, I would fast forward these months…
It’s not a negative post but it could easly become one and so… Let’s move to a much more positive and brighter tone.
Let’s talk about this super flowy vase, which was designed by Samuel Ansbacher. I think the more I see still objects the more I love the ones that involve some sort of movement. I can’t really explain it but it feels right and this vase has a “Take a Bow” kind of moment…

Dario’s | Looking for The Perfect Fit
How many rings are too many? Yesterday I tried to find one of my all time favorite rings but couldn’t find it. I have a feeling that it has something to do with the fact that I have too many accessories and that my filing system is out of control. Anyways, I’m telling you this only because I’ve been drooling over these rings (one and two) and I’m not sure what the right move is. I guess the question is: to buy or not to buy? The smart move would be to buy it (duh!) however, I think the responsible thing would be to go through all my rings and see if I really need another statement ring. BTW, the one behind this beauty is Itai Mintz aka Dario’s.

Side Effects by The Bezalel Students
Something realy good is happening in Jerusalem over the past few years. So many exciting exhibitions and design events that I find myself keep coming back to the city time after time after time. Even today, after I finish writing this post, I’ll be heading to Jerusalem’s Design Week opening event and if you know me, you probably know that I’m super excited about Bezalel’s Side Effects Exhibition. I can’t help myself, I’m all about young, emerging students! In this exhibition, I’ll be seeing some new designs from the M.Des Master’s Degree in Industrial Design. This is just a heads up! I’ll be writing some more about it in a few weeks.

Studio Ve | Dance Through Time
Shay Carmon and Ben Klinger have done it again!
These two, who go by the name Studio Ve, know a thing or two about clocks. I mean, they are the ones behind the Manifold Clock!
With that being said, let me introduce you to their new BRILLIANT clock and say hello to the Lithe Clock. I don’t think that I have the right vocabulary to express my feelings toward this beauty! Elegant, sensitive, fragile, smooth, soft and light are just few of the adjectives that run through my mind… I’m not going to add a single word, you should hear it all for yourself and watch their oh so dreamy kickstarter campaign.
