Kisim | World of Jacroki

  • The Jacroki Collection
  • The Zig Zag Bag
  • the Zebra Clutch
  • The Adamama Bag
A breathtaking catalog is not that common here in Israel so when I fist stumbled upon Kisim’s 2011 Summer catalog I was blown away!
Can you imagine designing an entire set out of fabric? Well, I guess Maor Zabar
thought he can handle it and oh … yes he did!
This intriguing papery world makes me want to have a cup of tea inside Maor’s wicked mind ;)
BTW, the duo behind these minimalistic bags are Yael Rosen and Orly Cohen Alloro.

Matkot TLV-Berlin | Something to Think About…

  • by Einat Stekler
  • by Dalia Gefen
  • by Maya Shalev
  • by Gad Ulman
A group of Israeli artists received a pair of Matkot (beach paddle ball rackets) as their medium. The artists, in their own way, developed a dialog with the material and the idea. The past and the future, the “here” and “there” and above all the present. The artists are struggling with anguish as they create their artwork from their inner being while trying to bridge the contrast that the Matkot game symbolizes in the “give and take” between people.
-
Matkot Tel Aviv-Berlin
at the ECC Atelierhaus, Berlin.
Starting this Friday.

World Break | Baku Maeda | Twists and Bends as He Goes

  • Frosty Night Fox
  • Patient Dog
  • Patient Dog | A Look From Behind
  • Golden Crest
  • The Ribbonesia Gang
I first came across the cutest ribbon animals by Baku Maeda a while back at the lushlee blog. Since then I kept coming back hoping to find a lot more ribbonicious creations and finally the time has come. Baku has made ribbonesia adornments and all I can say is thank god this guy is obsessed with animals!
You can have one of your own right here, well you only have to overcome the language barrier…
BTW, Baku is a gifted illustrator by day. I just had to mention it.

Ronit Baranga | Mouth To Mouth

Ronit Baranga moves me each time with her twisted mind ;)
“By combining ceramic sculptures of body parts within, the still object is transformed from a passive, used object, to an active one with the ability to choose how to behave in an encountered situation: to feed or not, to shout, to stay or to escape.
My works deal with emotional states and relationships”.
Ronit’s Self feeding, tea set is part of Handle with Care group exhibition.

Katrine Szyper | Doodle Away

Some people have this amazing ability to bring things to life literally from scratch. One of those gifted people is Katrine Szyper, who only needs a stack of magazines and her pen and she is set to go. “AMALGAM is a series of hand painted figures superimposed on photographs of architecture and design interiors. Each piece is hand-painted on a photograph. By introducing painted figures to the traditional photography of interiors, I have created a new perspective and perception of the photographed environment.”
If you would like to spice things up, Katrine is just an e-mail away.
You can get in touch with Katrine here:

World Break | Stephane Halleux | Animated Sculptures

  • Beauty Machine
  • Little flying Civil
  • Ny Cab
  • Monsieur Hublot
  • Monsieur Hublot | Detail
Leather, metal, wood pulp and recycled materials are all behind Stephane Halleux’s sculptures.
I’m not sure why I just came across his imaginative and surprising world only now. Stephane’s Monsieur Hublot is my favorite out of the bunch. In the near future you’ll be able to watch this character come to life in a short film.

Batia Malka | Inside The Womb

As you probably know I’m drawn to all the beautiful things in life and that is what I mostly post about. Batia Malka is a young ceramic artist who touched a soft spot inside me. Her “Inside The Womb” is so disturbing in so many levels but at the same time so sensitive and revealing.
I’m speechless at this point. I leave each one to his thoughts.

Gabby Nathan | Shiny Plastic and Illusions

  • The Good Shepherd | 2009 | Acrylic and markers on canvas
  • Elena | 2010 | Acrylic and markers on board
  • Untitled | 2009 | Acrylic and markers on canvas
  • When Pigs Fly | 2009 | Acrylic and markers on canvas
  • Monkey Business | 2009 | Acrylic and markers on canvas
There are are sleep walkers and then there are people like Gabby Nathan who seems like can draw in their sleep. I can vision her hands sketching in the background… “Gabby’s work is a kind of painted autobiography, a complicated relationship with the world of shiny plastic and illusions.”
As Gabby surrounds herself with vinyl toys, I can only hope she’ll have her own dunny one day.

This time I feel like we all have to take a moment and think about the concept behind “I Care A Lot”.
“The project’s aim is to raise the discussion about current issues in the Middle East through an international art exhibition in which jewelry is the chosen media”.
“I Care A Lot” was founded in Stockholm, Sweden by Dana Hakim, a jewelry artist and Yosef Bercovich, a graphic designer.

Tali Yalonetzki | Dog Face

  • Calvin
  • Safi
  • Ella
  • Dora
I’m not much of a dog lover but when Naomi Shiek sent me the link to Tali’s Etsy shop I found my self staring at this Calvin dog for quit some time… I guess deep inside I can find some kind of love for this cute puppy.
Tali has a remarkable ability to capture precious moments in life and make a timeless paining out of it.

Hila Amram | Magical Mutants

Hila invents her own nature at her “crystal garden”. Her art is like Alice in wonderland gone wild!
“Hila’s work expresses a strong affinity to Nature and wonder at its innovation that are manifested in her exploration of its magic.”

Naomi Shiek | Paper Cut

I’m obsessed with all things paper for as long as I can remember so I couldn’t be happier when I discovered Naomi’s work of art. What an amazing eye for details this girl has! You can find her work on her Etsy Shop and if I were you I wouldn’t miss her blog.
You can get in touch with Naomi here:

Some of my favorite paper links:
Zoe Bradley, Yulia Brodskaya, Charles Clary and hand cut maps by Karen m. O’leary. I have to mention the Mad museum’s “Slash: Paper Under the Knife” exhibition. My wish list: Papercraft and Paper: Tear, Fold, Rip, Crease, Cut books.

Orly Edlavitch | Creatures

One of Orly’s sources of inspiration are Vinyl toys or “new figurines” as she calls them. As I have an obsession for Kidrobot’s Dunny’s figure and I have lots of them I was drawn to Orly’s ceramic world. “My work consist of figures that were re-assembled in a traditional way. In my work I have tried to compare the ceramic industry of today with that of three centuries ago, and to subvert the existing order by using humor and changing small details. At the beginning of my work process, I collected different objects that served as my vocabulary; these included miniature toys, tableware and industrial figures…”

UMAMY | Concrete World

  • The Office | Complete Set
  • The Office | Complete Set
  • Pebblicious
  • Tender | SharpEnd
The UMAMY Design Group is one of my favorites. I guess that their new “Grey Area” exhibition is a proper reason to introduce you all to their wicked minds.
“The “Grey Area” exhibition, is about concrete. It is about a sensual material who’s value has been demolished. It is about moldable and non moldable shapes.”
I’m sure that now you’ll fall in love with their world.
BTW, the good news is that you can have your own piece of the UMAMY’s “Grey Area”.

Simone Solomon | Shadows

  • Vessel
  • Eye of the storm
  • Sea foam
  • Circle
  • One step forward two steps backwards
I feel it’s time for some art, here at DesignBreak.
Simone’s mysterious art work in clay captivated my mind for quite some time… I’m still looking for the reason.
It might be the non perfect forms, the broken lines or the shadows that kept hunting me… I have to keep thinking about this one.
Simone, thank you for touching my soul!
