Israelis@MilanDesignWeek | Mika Barr | Dying Hard

Patience, I guess is the word for me, defines Mika Barr’s origami-like fabrics. I don’t know a lot of people who can dye, print, fold and breath all at the same time!
Well, if I were to study at the Textile Design Department at the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, I guess I’d see it all over.
I remember gazing at these bigger then life fabrics for a very long time, while visiting the graduation exhibition of the class of 2009.
I forgot to mention that all this beauty is called folding A-part. You can read and see a lot more at designboom.

Israelis@MilanDesignWeek | Jaim Telias | Playing With Leaves

When you take a close look at Jaim Telias’s Alè, you can get lost in all the lights and shadows. It feels like starring at a bright maze.
“Alè is a lamp composed of bi-dimensional modules inspired by the tree leaves. Bending creates 3D petals which generates an infinity of different forms while being joined into one. Thus, every lamp is different.”
If you want to see the lamp in a larger scale click right here.
BTW, Alè means leaf in Hebrew.

Israelis@MilanDesignWeek | Amiram Biton | A Drop Of Water

I first stumbled upon Amiram Biton’s drop dead gorgeous vase a while back during one of my regular visits to DesignMilk. I’m thrilled to have the chance to announce it as one of my favorite vases e-v-e-r!
Such a brilliant idea and straight to the point execution. Drops of water have never been so appreciated!
You can get in touch with Amiram here: amirambiton {at} gmail {dot} com

Israelis@MilanDesignWeek | Hagit Pincovici | Folding Chairs

I have a feeling that Hagit and I studied at the same high school back in the day… but let’s leave it for another post;)
-
“Hagit Pincovici’s Alma Chair explores the relation between transparency and opacity and the harmony between Satin Ice Plexiglas and wood.”
I must admit that I love the rounded lines and the mix of bold and straight lined colors. It looks like she had a lot of paper folding parties at her studio.

Israelis@MilanDesignWeek | DAG DesignLab | Imaginary friends

Tal Mor and Shlomi Azulay have done it again!
Their rock a like salt & pepper shakers made me fall in love with their work before and now their new Fixie Lamps are in a whole new level of cuteness!
It looks like little reptile creatures having a fun dialog with each other or with themselves.
Now seriously, “the series is a collection of LED based lamps which is made out of a flexible material which makes them playful, and offers the users a variety of postures and adjustments.”
{DesignBreak found the Fixie’s here}

Israelis@MilanDesignWeek | Iris Zohar | Onion. Not What You’d Expect

“Where does a vase end and a flower begin?”
Each onion vase is a one-of-a kind solution that mirrors the variances occurring in nature.
I wish I could have a sea of onion vases on my dining table…
Well, First I need to have a dinning table ;)

Israelis@MilanDesignWeek | Here We Go…

Lets kick off our design week extravaganza here at DesignBreak.
Each day I will post about a couple of my own favorite Israeli designers that you can visit, this week, at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile and all over Milan.
BTW, the Promisedesign 2011 curatored by Ely Rozenberg and Professor Vanni Pasca is my favorite exhibition. You’ll hear more about it later this week.

Ronit Baranga | Mouth To Mouth

Ronit Baranga moves me each time with her twisted mind ;)
“By combining ceramic sculptures of body parts within, the still object is transformed from a passive, used object, to an active one with the ability to choose how to behave in an encountered situation: to feed or not, to shout, to stay or to escape.
My works deal with emotional states and relationships”.
Ronit’s Self feeding, tea set is part of Handle with Care group exhibition.
You read my previous post about Ronit right here.

Eva Avidar | Still Cockroach

I’ve beem planing on visiting the Six Biennale of Israeli Ceramics for a while now.
Lets be clear on one thing, I hate cockroaches but… this little creature is briliant and the fact that I know it’s made out of clay maks me love it!
I don’t know much about the artist, Eva Avidar, so if anyone can share some info I’ll be happy to hear it all.
You can get in touch with Eva here:

Ezri Tarazi | Battle Souvenirs

I’ll be the first to admit that spending two years in the army is no fun and games. In fact, I think I’ve erased it from my memory… but somehow walking down Ezri Tarazi’s
military home puts things in perspective. Ezri’s home objects made of battle souvenirs, such as vases made of bomb shells and ashtrays made of bullet shells made me confront my inner demons.
Ezri called his imagined home “Kalab”, which stand for close to home in army slang.
If you happen to be in Tel-Aviv you can experience it all for yourself at Paradigma Gallery till March 18th.

I’m a bit behind but… Jerusalem had it’s first ever Design Week, and till December 17, you can visit “Time 02″, which is all about passionate young designers. The curator Tal Gur says that the only initiating guideline was “Jerusalem as a source of inspiration”. “From the diverse and unexpected ways the designers chose, from the corners they chose to illuminate, we collected a mass of interesting and inspiring projects that each one is in a way a microcosms of Jerusalem.” FYI, The spirit behind it all is the energetic David Keller who I wrote about before.

Oded Ezer | Stained

Oded Ezer is my idol, there is no question about it!
He has this amazing ability to turn even the most common high heels into a work of art. I’m not that into heels but this pair would be a perfect fit to my shoe collection. Just for the sake of me starring at them 24/7.
BTW, Oded’s shoes are part of an exhibition that deals with the shoe as a raw material and as a work of art, just like Yaara Keydar’s shoes that I wrote about before.

Yaara Keydar | Use your imagination

Yaara is one of my idols in the Israeli blogosphere. She does it all: a fashion designer, fashion writer, editor and blogger and I’m sure the list goes on and on… Her Hebrew friendly blog, Nekudot, is full with endless inspiration. You should definitely take a peak even if you’re not familiar with the language. The images will do the work.
I have to say something about Yaara’s stunning shoe design which is part of an exhibition that deals with the shoe as a raw material and as a work of art.
BTW, “Nekudot” means dots in Hebrew.
