DesignBreak Elsewhere | Interviewing Kulla Design for the JPost
The first time I came across one of Kulla Design creations was when I bumped into their brilliant Tris Collection. Basically, these girls, Adi Shpigel and Keren Tomer, took plastic shutters and transformed them into the most amazing home accessories. Since then, I’ve been keeping my eyes on them and they don’t disappoint! Working with all the random objects and materials that surround our everyday life isn’t an easy task, but for some reason that’s what works best for these two. Join me while I learn a little bit more about Adi and Keren’s world on my Jerusalem Post series and read my “Doing Design: A recycled party for two” interview right here.

Bakery | Riding the Wooden Slope
The power couple Gilli Kuchik and Ran Amitai (aka Bakery) is one of my fav Israeli duos! There I said it :)
Their latest adventure is called Woodini, which made me like it from the gecko. Maybe the fact that a few days ago I visited Tokyo Disneyland, is what’s causing me to imagine roller coasters wherever I go and that is exactly what I see in this super cool stool. You can read all the serious technical details behind it right here but in the meanwhile leave it to me to enjoy the ride!
PS, I hope you see what I see… I don’t want you to think I have serious issues ;)

Is it already time for another Milan Design Week? I had so much fun writing about all the amazing designers last year! This time I’ll have to see it all once I get back from my trip. I had to share with you the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design 2012 Design Bonanza. If you are among the lucky ones who’ll be visiting the streets of Milan and the corridors of Ventura Lambrate during Milan Salone Internazionale del Mobile, you’ll be able to see at first hand 50 super exciting projects from the students of the Industrial Design Department. BTW, the curators behind it all are: Prof. Ezri Tarazi, Haim Parnas and Galit Shvo.

DesignBreak Elsewhere | Interviewing Iris Zohar for the JPost
If you are one of those people who know how to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, there is a big chance that you bumped into one of Iris Zohar‘s hug mugs. Yep, Iris is the one responsible for Max Brenner‘s super lovable mugs. The thing is, Iris has this unique ability to do it all, from designing for some of the biggest companies in Israel to giving back to society with her involvement with minorities and the less fortunate.
Join me while I dig into Iris’ intriguing world at my Jerusalem Post series.
You can read my “Doing Design: Just a little patience” interview right here.

Shira Keret | Avocado. Not What You Think
Lately I’m all about Anemones and Buttercups and every Friday I buy a bunch of them.
Shira Keret, graduated in 2010 and since then I see her name all over. When I first bumped into her hand blown glass “Purple Avocado”, my heart missed a beat. I can see clearly how it can be a perfect fit for my blooming flowers. Besides, there is nothing like adding another super chic vase to my never ending collection. PS, “Purple Avocado” is part of Talents Design‘s 2012 “Still Life – Still Alive” collection. PPS, it all began with Shira’s Paraphrase project.

Nir Meiri | Bamboolicious
For a moment I felt like it’s the Nir Meiri blog ;) Maybe the fact that I met Nir for the first time after a long email affair, confused me.
Anyways, the fact of the matter is that I’m one of Nir’s biggest fans. You can refresh your memory here, here oh and here too. The fact that he doesn’t know how to slow down makes things even more interesting. Nir’s latest creation is Bamboo version of his super brilliant concrete plates that I love so very much! His clean lines are getting slicker and slicker by the minute! Just a little warning, I’m sure you’ll be reading about Nir once the Milan Design Week approaches. Just sayin!

Shir Atar | Fairytale Furniture
From time to time I enjoy visiting the websites of designers who left an impression on me in the past. There is nothing like revisiting and seeing something you hadn’t expected. This is exactly what happened to me when, this morning, I visited the wonderland of Shir Atar. I’m not sure exactly when but Shir designed, with the help of Elad Pomerants, the most brilliant Snow White Collection.
As we don’t really have a lot of snow around here (thank god for that) I don’t mind experiencing the snow, the Shir and Elad way. Such a simple yet clever idea.
Thumbs up, you guys!

Praktik | Concrete Moment
  • Concrete Lamp
  • Concrete Lamp
  • 1kg | Concrete Weights
By now you all are probably familiar with my obsession with concrete . Once my eye lays on a concrete design I immediately want to have it… go figure.
I’m not really sure where I first saw Praktik‘s work of art for the first time but one thing is for sure, I need to pay a visit to their studio and the sooner the better. And when I’m saying “their” I’m referring to Daniel Rotmensch, Erez Laniado and Sagi Stern. The fun fact about these guys is that they do it all from branding to industrial design and in between. Fun, fun, fun!
Now, if you don’t mind, I’m gonna keep staring at their concrete lamp.

Jaim Telias | A Few branches and Lots of Caramelos
  • Olam | A branch, few books and a concrete shelf
  • Caramelos | You decide how and where you build your own Caramelos
  • Alef | Alef finds its own balance everytime it links to a contest
  • Olam | A branch, few books and a concrete shelf
Since first writing about the magical world of Jaim Telias, I became a huge fan of his! To be honest, as we speak I’m waiting for him to spill the beans regarding his latest project and the suspense is killing me! It’s not fair getting an email saying “stay tuned”! Anyways, I just realized I haven’t wrote about my favorite Jaim Telias’ creations and now is just about the perfect time. So, say hello to Olam, Caramelos and Alef. I don’t think I need to say much. You can all figure out why I’m hooked. Just one more thing, “Olam” means world in Hebrew, “Caramelos” mean candies in Spanish and “Alef” is the first letter in the Hebrew alphabet.

Deda Designs | Take Away is On It’s Way
I wish for more Israeli designers to have fun with package designs like they did in design school! When I bumped into the Deda world, the first thing that caught my eye was the “take away” motive behind their packaging. Can you imaging a vending machine that instead of snacks you get printed kitchen towels or placemats? I can!
Oh, just one more thing, The two ladies behind it all are Einat Nahary and Saray Levin.
-
BTW, did you see this cupcake vending mechine? brilliant!

DesignBreak Elsewhere | Interviewing Ori Ben Zvi for the JPost
The is something quite special about people who deal with sustainable design. Ori Ben-Zvi and his Ubico Studio made me want to dig in and learn a bit more about the creation process.
Get a behind the scenes pass to Ori and his one of a kind recycled creations in my Jerusalem Post series.
You can read my “Doing Design: One man’s trash is another man’s sofa” interview right here.

FAD | An Israeli Design Feast
I haven’t been excited about an event for a while… but there is something about FAD which is opening tonight that makes me feel like a little girl!
Maybe it’s the fact that I hope to finally meet some of my favorite industrial designers face to face (if I don’t freeze and find the right words) or the fact that I can’t wait to discover some new designers that I haven’t heard of before… I’m pretty sure I’ll mention this FAD a lot more in the near future but until then, let me leave you with Mishmaacool and Tag.me.no “Get a Bit of Reality” Dino table lamp.
FYI, FAD stands for Fashion.Art.Design. and the ones behind it all are Design Space and the Shoplifters gang.

Asaf Weinbroom | Bright Wood
Last week I shared with you my interview with Asaf Weinbroom but that won’t stop me from sharing with you his latest wooden adventure, Fervency. You can trust this wicked guy to come up with new and exciting ways to use wood in a chic and elegant way.
As I told you before, I’m not a big fan of wooden items but there is something endearing and different in Asaf’s way of thinking and definitely in the way he executes his initial ideas. What amazes me the most is the fact that his final design is practically identical to his sketch, or maybe it’s only my gut feeling ;)

Reddish Studio | Bottle Cork Zoo

Well, well, well… what have we here?
Unless you’ve lived under a rock for the past week or so, you’ve probably seen this Corkers zoo by Naama Steinbock and Idan Friedman aka the love bugs behind Reddish Studio. The two collaborated with Oded Friedland (also known as Monkey Business) and created this animal party! “Bring your dinner party and your bottle corks to life with these cute‭, ‬collectable animal parts‭.‬”
All is left to do is decide which animal to chose. Any suggestions?

Naama Hofman | The Game of Light
Seeing Naama Hofman’s light objects (as she refers to them) I couldn’t help thinking of the Star Wars’ Lightsaber… Do you see it, or is it just me?
I guess having a husband who loves all things “Star Wars” has something to do with it ;)
In her 005 Collection, Hila used glass, acrylic tube and LED light for creating four different creatures. These objects feel at times 2D objects rather than 3D… and I have a feeling that’s what makes me love them so much… What can I say, I’m a 2D girl!
