Or Inbar | Where Illustrated Magic Comes to Life
When I stumbled upon Or Inbar’s illustrated “At Dawn of Time”, I immediately was drawn to it’s “Where the Wild Things Are” vibe.
Do you see where I’m coming from?
The story, written by Ronit Hacham, got a fairytaled interpretation by Or and she made me gaze and look at all the tiny little details in there. I don’t know if it’s just me, but it almost feels like Or drew her magic on a fabric canvas and not really on common white paper. I can go on and on about this super brilliant illustrations but I think I better let them do the talking instead of me.

Sivan Sternbach | Balloons. The Ceramic Version
Is it strange that I still love balloons altough I’m not six year old? I hope the answer is no ;)
While visiting The FAD Pop-Up Shop, I fell head over heals with the most amazing ceramic balloons by Sivan Sternbach. Sivan shared with me that it all began as a gesture to Eran Shakine’s bronze balloon that she owns. Since then and many balloons later, Sivan uses different kinds of clays and has fun sculpting away balloons in all shapes and forms.
-
BTW, speaking of balloons- Geronimo Balloons. Press. Now. Thank me later.

Jaim Telias | A Few branches and Lots of Caramelos
  • Olam | A branch, few books and a concrete shelf
  • Caramelos | You decide how and where you build your own Caramelos
  • Alef | Alef finds its own balance everytime it links to a contest
  • Olam | A branch, few books and a concrete shelf
Since first writing about the magical world of Jaim Telias, I became a huge fan of his! To be honest, as we speak I’m waiting for him to spill the beans regarding his latest project and the suspense is killing me! It’s not fair getting an email saying “stay tuned”! Anyways, I just realized I haven’t wrote about my favorite Jaim Telias’ creations and now is just about the perfect time. So, say hello to Olam, Caramelos and Alef. I don’t think I need to say much. You can all figure out why I’m hooked. Just one more thing, “Olam” means world in Hebrew, “Caramelos” mean candies in Spanish and “Alef” is the first letter in the Hebrew alphabet.

Miki Mottes | Green OCD
It’s time to add some shades of green to DesignBreak, don’t you think?
Miki Mottes is one of my favorite illustrators, but you know it already. Lately, I wake up to his OCD little creatures on Pinterest and so can you! It’s so much fun following Miki’s personal project… I can see 100 more creatures in the near future (well, only because he told me so :) BTW, OCD stands for One Creature a Day.
-
A side note: I spent way to much time at Miki’s home page… If I were you I would drop by. you won’t be sorry!

Deda Designs | Take Away is On It’s Way
I wish for more Israeli designers to have fun with package designs like they did in design school! When I bumped into the Deda world, the first thing that caught my eye was the “take away” motive behind their packaging. Can you imaging a vending machine that instead of snacks you get printed kitchen towels or placemats? I can!
Oh, just one more thing, The two ladies behind it all are Einat Nahary and Saray Levin.
-
BTW, did you see this cupcake vending mechine? brilliant!

DesignBreak Elsewhere | Interviewing Ori Ben Zvi for the JPost
The is something quite special about people who deal with sustainable design. Ori Ben-Zvi and his Ubico Studio made me want to dig in and learn a bit more about the creation process.
Get a behind the scenes pass to Ori and his one of a kind recycled creations in my Jerusalem Post series.
You can read my “Doing Design: One man’s trash is another man’s sofa” interview right here.

Yulia Tsukerman | Ceramic Candy
For some reason, DesignBreak became a little bit more artsy this week…
As I mentioned, yesterday I visited the pop-up shop FAD and boy I was blown away by the mad talent!
One of the ceramists that made me smile from ear to ear was Yulia Tsukerman and her Vanitas world. It’s been a while since I was moved by a ceramic creation and I’ve been looking for “the next big thing” in the ceramic world. I know I’m using big words but I feel like there is a lot more where this mysterious beauty came from.
FYI, “Vanitas” is the Latin word stands for “Emptiness”.

FAD | An Israeli Design Feast
I haven’t been excited about an event for a while… but there is something about FAD which is opening tonight that makes me feel like a little girl!
Maybe it’s the fact that I hope to finally meet some of my favorite industrial designers face to face (if I don’t freeze and find the right words) or the fact that I can’t wait to discover some new designers that I haven’t heard of before… I’m pretty sure I’ll mention this FAD a lot more in the near future but until then, let me leave you with Mishmaacool and Tag.me.no “Get a Bit of Reality” Dino table lamp.
FYI, FAD stands for Fashion.Art.Design. and the ones behind it all are Design Space and the Shoplifters gang.

Keren Rosen | Family Ties
  • Galia . Keren's Friend
  • Keren's Mom
  • Orit and Her Cats
  • Keren's Dad
  • Nilly . Keren's Friend
  • Adi . Keren's Friend
Can you imagine your close family and friends as little miniatures?
I certainly can!
Well, Keren Rosen took it up a notch and actually made an army of little minis. I love the fact that she tried to capture their spirit and personality by adding just a dash of color.
Keren is one of those people who likes to keep themselves busy at all times and beside her daily work as an industrial designer, she sketches… like EVERY DAY kind of thing and even has time for other side projects. I don’t know what about you but I feel like I have to step up my game… ;)

Ola Liola | Expressing Emotions through Color
I’ve been meaning to write about Ola Liola’s colorful world for a while…
This is one of those moments where I want to kick myself. Why did it take me so long?!
Anyways, when seeing Ola’s illustrations for the first time, the only thing I could think of was how amazing it would be to experience the world of Alice in wonderland from cover to finish with Ola’s dreamy touch… Yep, I think it would be a once in a life time experience. But, until Ola adopts this brilliant idea I’ll keep on dreaming about asking her to participate in my Illustrated Break

Liora Taragan | Parrot Bling
I don’t know what it is with me and feathers. I keep coming back to them whenever a jewelry piece is involved and I can’t be any happier!
SO, finding out about Liora Taragan’s Feathers Collection, made it crystal clear to me, feathers are my new everything!
I have to add that there is a lot more to Liora Taragan, in fact she is a heck of a fashion designer and you can read a bit more about her right here.
If you don’t mind, I’ll keep on drooling for a bit…

Dor Carmon | Candlicious
Do you know what it’s like to have +1000 in your rss reader? Well, I have +10.000 in my reader and my bookmark library as well!
So today I decided to do some damage control and one of my first discoveries was Dor Carmon and his minimal kingdom. I could write about all of his doing but my favorite design is his SPRING Candlesticks which he designed for Tollman’s.
I have a soft spot for all things candles and I could use a pair of each! Love the color combinations and how they perfectly fit the bare candles.
Do you think I should start lighting Sabbath candles? ;)

Asaf Weinbroom | Bright Wood
Last week I shared with you my interview with Asaf Weinbroom but that won’t stop me from sharing with you his latest wooden adventure, Fervency. You can trust this wicked guy to come up with new and exciting ways to use wood in a chic and elegant way.
As I told you before, I’m not a big fan of wooden items but there is something endearing and different in Asaf’s way of thinking and definitely in the way he executes his initial ideas. What amazes me the most is the fact that his final design is practically identical to his sketch, or maybe it’s only my gut feeling ;)

Lital Mendel | Silicone Vally
You think you know a designer and then you find out that she has some surprises up her sleeves! If you don’t really follow me by now, I’m talking about a particular curly gal who goes by the name Lital Mendel. After folding her way for some time she decided to tackle the concept of pearls with her own unique take. She has done it before with her stones collection but this time there is something fascinating with the way she tries to freeze the movement of the pearls. Don’t know what about you, but I prefer Lital’s version way better!

Eva Mendelbaum and Kisim | Inked Bags
I think we should all have lots of collaborations. The outcome is so refreshing and exciting!
Noam Zucker, the lady behind Eva Mendelbaum used her mad illustrated skills and joined forces with Yael Rosen and her Kisim empire. Together the two created Carnivorous, a mini collection of leather bags inspired by the body tattoos of the Japanese Yakuza. There is something quite intriguing about the way they decided to use wild flowers as their main motive.
BTW, Noam was kind enough to share with us a glimpse of the behind the scenes sketches and I couldn’t be any happier!
