Student Break | Natalie Bettelheim and Sharon Michaeli | Howl

Sometimes all you need is a good story and the rest will follow. Natalie Bettelheim and Sharon Michaeli came up with such a sensitive story that no words were needed. Sharon Michaeli’s animation is priceless! The light, textures and movement were flawless. The one “bad” thing I can say is I wanted it to last for a few more minutes. I’m a sucker for emotional stories. Guilty as charged!
It’s exciting to see this short animation come from the Screen-Based Arts Department at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.
One more thing, LOVE the animation tests. Girls, tnx for moving me!

Studet Break | Max Cheprack | Oriental Clay

Imagining a ginormous machine, so you’ll be able to fulfill your vision, is one thing, actually building it, is a whole other story! I guess Max Cheprack likes to go the extra mile, his extrusion clay research led to a line of stools. I can tell it was a long and overwhelming journey. By Pushing clay through a Muslim inspired template Max created these unique stools and opened a door to some new possibilities and adventures in the ceramic world.
Here is a glimpse inside the process.
Max is a graduate of the Industrial Design Department at H.I.T.

World Break | Edgar Mosa | Mosatural

When my dear friend, Ruta Reifen, mentioned the name Edgar Mosa I didn’t have a clue who he was. So, as I do best, I began digging and oh boy, I fell in love!
Edgar is a 2011 MA graduate at the Cranbrook Academy of Arts, Michigan, USA and his graduation project, “The Mountain”, is so refreshing and one of a kind! I don’t really know what to say except OMG!
Natural materials never looked so sophisticated and ready to wear.

Student Break | Liron Kroll | Family and Femininity

“High Expectations” is Liron Kroll’s graduation film at the RCA. Liron chose family photographs and dealt with the gap between the idealized photograph and the reality it represents. “The film questions the role of family photography as the key way to form memories and examines the effect it can have on one’s perception of the future.” Liron stresed that “She is interested in the illusiveness of normality and the inherent contradiction in the need to belong to a social structure, but being simultaneously repulsed by it.”
I’m excited to share with you a sneak peek and a behind the scenes footage.

Student Break | Polina Azarov | Adopt Your Furniture

Would you allow yourself to become attached to your drawer, as much as to your adorable dog? Polina Azarov, from the Industrial Design Department at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, created her own version of a felted Brady Bunch. These soft containers are a real family with each object having its own character and a different form of storage. “The softness and the proportions of the objects make them domestic creatures that we can enjoy adopting into our homes.”
All I can tell you is that my next piece of furniture will be my new pet! There is nothing wrong with that, is there?

Student Break | Lee Schein | Anthropological Journey into The Wild

Sometimes, I find myself daydreaming about a book i just read and seeing myself living in it’s imaginary world. It’s not that strange, right? When, Lee Schein, a fresh graduate of the Visual Communications Department at WIZO Haifa Academy of Design and Education, Sent in her wild creatures I discovered her imaginary world of monsters with their super chic clothes and impeccable style. Other than that, Lee uses only black as her weapon, giving black new meaning as a colorful color.
BTW, I forgot to mention that as part of Lee’s journey she created textile accessories. Told you they are stylish creatures!

Student Break | Shimon Cornfeld | Floating Emotions

Imagine a room with two pools. Inside are floating white glass pieces tied to weights. I must confess that I was blown away by all the emotions that flooded me. The only thing Shimon agreed to say was that this creation was his own therapy. It allowed him to look inside and dig deep.
I don’t know what the story is but I’m sure that the fact that Shimon comes from a religious family with many children has something to do with it.
I wish you could experience it for yourself.

Student Break | Racheli Gabay Schaffner | Frozen Tea Party

Yesterday was all about Peter Pan but today it’s about Alice in wonderland‘s tea party and the Cheshire Cat courtesy of Racheli Gabay Schaffner. Racheli researched the world of two dimensions and was drawn to the photography and animation aspect of it. She wanted to represent a series of rhythmic movements as ceramic objects and she defiantly succeeded freezing this tea party’s madness :)
BTW, one of the artists that Racheli was inspired by is Peter Jansen.

Haitham Haddad decided that his comfy sofa, wooden dices and leather dolls (some of his childhood memories) will inspire a collection that will bring back the innocence into our adulthood. I’ve seen a thing or two in my life but Sivan Royz’s graduation project is out of this world! There is no doubt in my mind that this kid is gonna be a textiled star. The way she layered these laser cut silk pieces made me stare at them for a long long time. Sivan named her collection “Blooming Structures” and I feel like there are no words to describe how amazed I am by this endless sensitivity and beauty. She transformed the world of nature into drop dead gorgeous accessories.
BTW, Sivan just graduated from the Textile Design Department at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design.

Student Break | Noa Dotan | Let Go to Terapy!

Noa Dotan is a fresh graduate of the Industrial Design Department at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. Her “Family Matters” are toys for family therapy. “I realized that the field of therapy is full of card games and computer programs but missing 3D relateable objects. The toys originated as a tool for therapists and patients, creating and encouraging communication in the therapeutic framework.”
Between designing and baking brilliant cupcakes, Noa has a thing for bunnies and mustaches. Oh, and she collects Dunnies. It’s definitely an ice breaker!
BTW, this is the cutest logo ever!

Student Break | Adva Rozenshtein | City Life

When I first bumped into Adva’s jewelry I wondered what was the initial idea or moment that made it all happen. I made up a story in my mind about war medals and wondered how far fetched it was. Anyways, Adva’s journey began with busy city life and her wanting to freeze a moment in motion. Love it! The way she turned moving objects into color blocks made her come up with the name “Highway” for her collection. I guess I was wrong :)
BTW, Adva is a 2011 graduate at the Jewelry Design Department of Shenkar College of Engineering and Design.
