Student Break | Sivan Kidron | Blue Whale
Is it too crazy waiting patiently for a short animation film to be released? A while back I got a sneak peek of Sivan Kidron’s Blue Whale graduation film almost ten months ago and since then kept coming back and today the completed film was waiting for me!
I can’t explain in words how happy it made me feel. There is something quite old fashioned about the craftsmanship and the handmade feeling of it. It’s a feeling like no other! I can’t wait to see what Sivan’s next move will be… I’m sure gonna be watching her. BTW, Sivan is a 2011 Graduate of the Screen Based Arts Department at Bezalel Academy.

Student Break | Yevgeni Krachak | Home and Away
When it’s cold and rainy outside, all I want to do is crawl under my duvet. For some reason Yevgeni Krachak’s Homeless animation feels like a good fit. His little creature is searching for a proper home and it’s adorable face expressions make me want to adopt him. I know, I know it’s only an animation… I’m having hard time separating fiction and real life ;)
BTW, Yevgeni is a third year student at the Screen-Based Arts Department at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.

Tamar Tal | Life in Stills | Fragile Moments
Over the weekend I went to see the documentary Life in Stills by Tamar Tal. “At the age of 96, Miriam Weissenstein never imagined that she would be facing a new chapter in her life. But when The Photo House was destined for demolition, even this opinionated and uncompromising woman knew she needed help.” Everyone who knows how it feels to watch your loved ones grow old will find this piece overwhelming. For me, the special bond between Miriam and her grandson Ben is priceless and a lesson to be learned. I can’t explain all the emotions that ran through me… Tamar, just wanted to say THANK YOU!

World Break | Elsa Lambinet | Sweet Sunday!

Do you know anyone out there who doesn’t like chocolate? I don’t! SO, when I stumbled upon Elsa’s “Sweet Play”, you should have seen me jumping up and down in my chair. Your own custom chocolate! How genius is that?! BTW, this sweet magic was created at the ECAL /University.

Speaking of chocolate, I had to share with you one of my favorite illustrators who happens to work at one of my favorite brands (last photo). Katie Evans created this oh so delicious collage of paper-cut chocolates for Kate Spade.

Student Break | Natalie Bettelheim and Sharon Michaeli | Howl

Sometimes all you need is a good story and the rest will follow. Natalie Bettelheim and Sharon Michaeli came up with such a sensitive story that no words were needed. Sharon Michaeli’s animation is priceless! The light, textures and movement were flawless. The one “bad” thing I can say is I wanted it to last for a few more minutes. I’m a sucker for emotional stories. Guilty as charged!
It’s exciting to see this short animation come from the Screen-Based Arts Department at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.
One more thing, LOVE the animation tests. Girls, tnx for moving me!
