World Break | Oliver Jeffers | Coffee in Crime
I have an issue with coffee. There is no point in denying it. Take one look at my Instagram feed and you’ll know exectly what I’m talking about. Anyways, when I first stumbled upon Oliver Jeffers’s A World With Coffee, for a moment it felt like I have a partner in crime out there. I get SO many worried comments regarding my coffee habits that I think I needed to find Oliver sooner than later. I looked all over to find more of his coffee illustrations but no luck so far. Oliver, if you hear me, please share some more of these life saving creations!

World Break | Yong Joo Kim | Velcrolicious
When was the last time you payed attention to velcro?
It seems like Yong Joo Kim eats sleeps and breathes velcro… “Think of the velcro: a long strip of rough, bland, and industrial object, seen on shoes, bags, watches, and at the grocery store. As I pay close attention to it and its system of organization in my environment, I find new ways of looking, new ways of decomposing and composing them, and new ways of creating a relationship between it and our body.”
I’m in owe of her brilliant idea, there is nothing more I can say!

Well, well, well isn’t this the most adorable bunch you’ve ever seen?!
Lauren Bradshaw’s Walnut Animal Society is quite a smart and sophisticated group! They say “god is in the details” and in this particular case I’m sure that god is pretty impressed with all the extra thoughtful and stylish add ons.
All is left to say is love me some you ;)

World Break | The Good Machinery | Animal Kingdom

I’m obsessed with Etsy. There I said it! So when ever I get their newsletter (you know I signed up for ALL of their newsletters…) it’s like a sign to drop whatever I’m doing and go into a happy artsy mode. That was the case earlier today when I spotted The Strange Planet animals by The Good Machinery. These little colorful animals made me realize that you don’t have to be a kid to enjoy things from your past. I can still remember playing with my plastic animals as a child and the fact that I can have the same animals but a bit more stylish and jazzed up makes things so much better.
I’m so getting my own little zoo a.sap!

Zohara Tights | Illustrated Legs

Are you in favor of tights and leggings? Is it your thing? I’m not really sure if this piece of clothing is right for me BUT… After bumping into the world of Zohara and seeing in person the illustrations that one can wear on her legs I think there is still time to rethink it all over. Oh and the great thing about it all is “every year a select number of Artists from around the world bring a different perception of art to the collection.” There is nothing I like more than a bunch of talented designers working on a joint project.
FYI, the mind behind Zohara is Dana Rapaport.

World Break | Elsa Lambinet | Sweet Sunday!

Do you know anyone out there who doesn’t like chocolate? I don’t! SO, when I stumbled upon Elsa’s “Sweet Play”, you should have seen me jumping up and down in my chair. Your own custom chocolate! How genius is that?! BTW, this sweet magic was created at the ECAL /University.
-
Speaking of chocolate, I had to share with you one of my favorite illustrators who happens to work at one of my favorite brands (last photo). Katie Evans created this oh so delicious collage of paper-cut chocolates for Kate Spade.

World Break | Paula Gaviria | The Mystery Goddess!

Paula Gaviria is quite a mystery… I can’t find any information about her. I guess she decided to let her jewelery do the talking and I can’t blame her.
This Colombian native got some serious talent! Her statement necklaces won me over, the minute I laid my eyes on them. Paula, if you hear me, wherever you are, please create some more beauty. You can’t leave me like this with only a handful of your drop dead gourges creations!
On a side note, if anyone can recognize the font Paula used on her website I’ll be forever grateful.

World Break | Design + Conquer Jewelry | Jukebox Madness

For her brand new collection, Morgan Mallett aka Design + Conquer Jewelery, followed the beat of electronic music. How brilliant is that! I can imagine Morgan dancing around her studio, transforming her dance moves into work of art. Who can argue with the sound of music mixed with neon touch?!
And the most exciting part is that each and every piece is inspired by a specific track. Heck yeah!
I’m gonna have a look at some of Morgan’s music choices. God knows I have zero understanding in electronic music. BTW, I was introduced to Morgan’s world in boticca.com.

  • Hostess Earrings | Expo Collection
  • Pavilion Earrings | Expo Collection

  • Expo Earrings | Expo Collection
It happened once before so why not again. Coming your way are two posts about only one designer!
As of now, Morgan Mallett the wicked gal behind Design + Conquer, is the one to beat. Graphic designers, who make the transition into the world of accessories, are my heroes! And as one of those, Morgan brings so much versatility and awesomeness to the table. As I see it, coming from the graphic design world gives her a great advantage! I got so excited that I didn’t mention my massive crush on the colors, shapes… well, all of it, from beginning to end!

  • iPod Earphones Pendant
  • Connoisseur Turntable Pendant
  • DJ Crate Digger Pendant

From time to time there is nothing wrong with splurging, right?
Well, I’m not sure if my wallet will be happy to hear about my latest wishlist. Who am I kidding, I can only dream of having one of Dark Cloud Silver‘s music miniatures as my own. It takes me back in time, when as a little girl I wore my favorite miniature cookie monster as a pendent (I had an exquisite taste back in the day :)
You can get your own tiny treasure at oyemodern.com, a house for many Australian designers.
BTW, the mystery man behind it all is the wonder boy, Nathan Thomas.

World Break | notTuesday | The Perfect Color Combo

Just the other day, I mentioned to a friend of mine that I dress basic, I’m just fine with simple basic clothes but then… the accessories that I wear is a whole different story. There is nothing basic about them. As I see it, I want them to be the center of attention :)
With that being said, Rachel Wightman, aka notTuesday is kill.ing.it with her color combos and simple shapes. Sometimes all you need is just the right dash of colors mixed with the perfect shapes and Voilà you are set.
On a side not, the fact that Rachel is an Aussie gave her some extra sepcial points.

World Break | Edgar Mosa | Wooden Statment

Well, you probably won’t belive it, but this is a first here at DesignBreak.
Two posts, one designer, published only a few seconds apart. What can I say, I can’t help myself!
I had to take a step back and share with you Edgar Mosa’s 2010 “Month Three”.
“Trees are like people – its not like you can just walk up to them and expect to get along.” Can’t argue with Edgar’s statement, but now you understand why I just couldn’t write about his intriguing world just once. Right?

World Break | Edgar Mosa | Mosatural

When my dear friend, Ruta Reifen, mentioned the name Edgar Mosa I didn’t have a clue who he was. So, as I do best, I began digging and oh boy, I fell in love!
Edgar is a 2011 MA graduate at the Cranbrook Academy of Arts, Michigan, USA and his graduation project, “The Mountain”, is so refreshing and one of a kind! I don’t really know what to say except OMG!
Natural materials never looked so sophisticated and ready to wear.
