Student Break | Anat Martkovich | Cutting and Pasting
If it was up to me, I would have written about Anat Martkovich’s graduation project months ago… The problem was I had to wait for the pictures to come my way. Anyways, all of that is water under the bridge. Anat’s Cut & Paste collection is one of those who left a big mark on me… “The collection is inspired by knowledge, the flow and abundance of information at this point in time and how we as individuals, can’t possibly contain it all… ” I guess it hits a soft spot!
BTW, Anat is a 2011 graduate of the Fashion Design Department at Shenkar College.

Student Break | Chen Pony Shafir | Take Me To The Dark Side

Back in the day, as a student, I studied quite a bit about “Still life” painting. Not sure if it’s the right time or place to share with you my thoughts on the subject but then again… I feel like the same thoughts were the trigger for Chen Pony Shafir’s collection.
Chen’s dark side is shown in this mysterious journey she took upon herself…
BTW, Chen is a graduate of the Fashion Design Department at Shenkar College.

Meanwhile, Chen began her internship at Mary Katrantzou‘s studio and I’m curious about what’s next to come.

Student Break | Efrat Goldstien | Little Women

During her first three years in school, Efrat Goldstien used only black and white… Who would have known that this girl will have the most vibrant collection of them all?! Efrat’s project deals with her criticism against the women of the fifties and their role at home. By humor and exaggeration she tried to emphasize how women were one dimensional. I’m blown away by every little detail in this collection!
In times like this, I wish I could upload larger images!!!
FYI, Efrat is a graduate of the Fashion Design Department at Shenkar College.

Student Break | Chen Bar Kalifa | Lost in Translation

Natural disasters. We don’t have too many around here but last year the disruptive fire that killed most of the Carmel Forest was one of those moments you can’t leave behind…
Most of Chen Bar Kalifa’s childhood memories vanished with this fire and suddenly his colorful memories transformed into a sad world of muted nature. Chen’s sensitive eye and his way of telling his own story through his art is breathtaking! I can honestly say I can’t wait for his next collection. FYI, Chen is a graduate of the Fashion Design Department at Shenkar College.

Student Break | Lenny Uzan | R for Red

In “Captive”, Lenny Uzan’s graduation project, there is a dialog between two artists. First, the Palestinian Mona Hatoum, who exposes in her work the experience of displacement, detachment and wandering, while raising questions about freedom and political borders. By her side the Israeli Erez Israeli, who copes with bereavement, death, memorial, forgetfulness and monumentality. Lenny’s collection tells the story of the duality of our lives. BTW, Lenny is a 2011 graduate of the Fashion Design Department at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design.

Student Break | Maayan Hod | Here Comes The Sun

Maayan Hod is one of those graduates that I know nothing about and maybe it’s a good thing cause I can play the guessing game, which I really enjoy.
I’m gonna keep thinking about the layering and double meaning for a while. If any of you can figure out what’s behind this oh so complicated atmosphere I would appreciate your comments. Until then, I’m gonna focus on these vibrant and happy colors.
Yep, yellow makes me happy. There I said it! Oh, Maayan is a graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design.

Student Break | Hila Martuzana | The Rhythm of Paper

The cycle of nature and the transition between seasons are the inspiration behind Hila Martuzana’s collection. Changes in climate, motion, rhythm, smells and feelings, all of which are the focal point in this white parade. I can go on and on about the logistics and inspiration behind it all but the fact of the matter is I can’t keep my eyes of it. I’m SO impressed by the fact that Hila chose paper as her main material. It makes me want to give her a big hug and tell her that I wish her next adventure will include lots and lots of paper! FYI, hila is a graduate of The Kibbutzim College.

Student Break | Lilach Eliyahu | Sweet Child of Mine

TLV Fashion Week is happening as we speak so I decided to have a fashion week of my own with my favorite 2011 graduates.
-
First in line is Lilach Eliyahu, a graduate of the Fashion Design Department at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design. This girl knows you don’t have to be too serious when it comes to fashion to get it done right! As a child Lilach moved a lot and saying goodbye wasn’t easy. All those bad memories led her to take doll parts and little girl cloths and start something new. Although the collection looks colorful and sweet, when you take a closer look you’ll see that it is not as sweet as it seems.

Eva Mendelbaum | Intergalactic Thoughts

Two visual artists, Noam Zucker and Michael Sperer, decided it was time to ditch the art world and enter the fashion zone with a bang. What an admirable move, don’t you think? They created “Eva Mendelbaum” back in 2009 and these days their second collection aka “Radio Enterprise” hits the stands. I’m fascinated by their intergalactic prints and especially the one with the clouds. Such a smart and yet so simple concept! This is one of those times that I want to pinch myself. Why didn’t I think of it sooner? Point to self, clouds are my new obsession. Some instagram madness is on it’s way.

Student Break | Haitham Haddad | The Magical World of Never Land

When Peter Pan is your favorite movie growing up, the road for a stunning collection is a no-brainer! Haitham Haddad decided that his comfy sofa, wooden dices and leather dolls (some of his childhood memories) will inspire a collection that will bring back the innocence into our adulthood. You can sense Haitham’s attraction to his “Bedtime Stories”, with his use of nightwear linen, bright colors and pique fabric.
Oh, Haitham is a 2011 graduate of the Fashion Design Department of Shenkar College of Engineering and Design.

Eynat Klipper | Swimming Against the Flow

Another key player in Israel’s swimwear scene is Eynat Klipper. She draws her inspiration from family photos from the 50s and 60s. Eynat’s shapes and spot on colors create a beautiful complete package.
For this minimalistic journey Eynat teamed up with the genius photographer Sharon Derhy, who added her one of a kind point of view.
BTW, Thumbs up for Eynat for designing her own fabrics and producing it all locally. You can say these swim suits are 100% Israelis ;)

Ugly Ducking | Gal Angel | Qwack Qwack

I’m having hard time breathing. It’s 84°F outside! I wish I could live inside my refrigerator. Thinking about the right post for this hot weather I couldn’t have chosen anything other than the cool and watery photo shoot for Ugly Ducking‘s 2011 Swimwear collection. The master mind behind it all is Gal Angel, a girl with a nostalgic chic and a love for old times. While checking this colorful and fun collection, I fell in love with Noa Eisenschtat‘s ability to capture the right moment. I knew those two had a blast during the photo shoot. It shows!
Hope I helped you cool down ;)
Oh… happy summer, you guys!

An’ka | Anna Mirkin | Glass Reality

  • Things you find on the street as a child | T-shirt
  • Swan math | T-shirt
  • Endless quest | T-shirt
  • Diamond horses| T-shirt
  • Things you find on the street as a child | T-shirt
Anna Mirkin, the gal behind An’ka, had nature museums in mind, while making her latest T-shirt collection. The fact that it captures flowers, birds and all kinds of animals behind glass made her reflect on life and the modern lifestyle with it’s conventions. Anna named it all “Natural history of you” and I must admit that it makes me appreciate her trying to deal with some heavy and emotional stuff while working on a T-shirt collection. Thank you for this one Anna!

Sharon Brunsher | Monochromatic Summer

Sharon Brunsher. Those two words mean perfection! I can’t think of any other Israeli designer that makes me feel like a kid in a candy store once I enter her monochromatic world of… well, perfection. I said it already!
Sharon’s Japanese version of the black and white summer collection is exactly what you would expect from a gal who knows how to turn a common concept into an extraordinary creation. I’m sure you all have seen more than once a black and white collection but I can garenty there is only one like Sharon Brunsher’s. Oh… one more thing, if I were you, I’d sign up to her Facebook page. You’ll thank me for this one.

Mona | Moriah Hemed | Down Memory Lane

For her 2011 Summer Collection, Moriah Hemed, the face behind Mona, chose the super romantic movie, The Notebook , as her inspiration.
I must admit I haven’t seen it yet but as Moriah pointed out, Allie, the lead female character, has an impeccable wardrobe – I’m surely gonna watch it soon enough.
The photographs and especially the first one made me feel part of a dreamy fairytale I want to explore. In fact, it makes me want to have a glimpse of the 40′s in my closet.
