Can you imagine your close family and friends as little miniatures?
I certainly can!
Well, Keren Rosen took it up a notch and actually made an army of little minis. I love the fact that she tried to capture their spirit and personality by adding just a dash of color.
Keren is one of those people who likes to keep themselves busy at all times and beside her daily work as an industrial designer, she sketches… like EVERY DAY kind of thing and even has time for other side projects. I don’t know what about you but I feel like I have to step up my game… ;)

Buligaia | Adiya Berkovich | Midnight Owls
  • John | The Pirate Owl
  • Sleepyhead | The Sleep Lover Owl
  • The Nutcracker Owl
I have a thing for owls, I can’t really explain why but when it comes down to this big headed animal and it’s huge eyes I melt inside…
Adiya Berkovich and her magic hands is the one responsible for all these Buligaia Owls. She manages to capture their lovable face expressions and I just love it!
All I want to do do is grab Owl John (my absolute fav) and cuddle him!

Just one more thing, I really enjoyed the movie Legend of the Guardians. Yep, it’s about owls ;)

World Break | The Good Machinery | Animal Kingdom

I’m obsessed with Etsy. There I said it! So when ever I get their newsletter (you know I signed up for ALL of their newsletters…) it’s like a sign to drop whatever I’m doing and go into a happy artsy mode. That was the case earlier today when I spotted The Strange Planet animals by The Good Machinery. These little colorful animals made me realize that you don’t have to be a kid to enjoy things from your past. I can still remember playing with my plastic animals as a child and the fact that I can have the same animals but a bit more stylish and jazzed up makes things so much better.
I’m so getting my own little zoo a.sap!

MonstersEtc | Monster Therapy

Austin, the giant panda monster is one of many little monsters in the MonstersEtc factory. You can find there Anton, the mini monster and Georgina the pink monster among others. Each little creature has it’s own unique story like Austin who has a huge bookmark collection that he has been collecting for ages. MonstersEtc is the creation of the power couple Noa and Ruti. The two work as speech therapist by day and make monsters as their own therapy by night.
They both wear glasses, have bald husbands, who work as graphic designers and play the drums. so basically they are sort of the same person…
You can get in touch with the girls here: MonstersEtc {at} gmail {dot} com

Jenny Pokryvailo | Traveling Teddy

“Teddy Bear in a suitcase deals with the familiar feeling before a long journey of stuffing your suitcase until there is no space left.
How much space will you sacrifice for your plushie?”
I would definitely sacrifice all the space my teddy needs ;)

Liat Yaniv | Paper and glue

There is no word in the dictionary that can describe my reaction when I first read about Liat’s magic hands!
I know, you all have seen illustrations before but if you’ll take a closer look you’ll find out that those illustrations are made out of the daily newspaper and a good old glue. I’m so impressed by the level of accuracy and persistence of this girl!
The fact that we are both from Ramat-Gan makes me want to drop by for a visit at her papery kingdom.

Two Industrial Designers | Tailor Dolls

A while back I did an One one One Break with “Two Industrial Designers”.
This time it’s all about their latest collaboration with Israel’s top designer Daniella Lehavi, who is best known for her elegant and minimalistic leather choices when it comes to handbags and shoes.
I’m extremely excited that Liran and Ran decided to share with me their sketches… It’s not that common for designers to reveal their process so… Guys, thank you for this one!

OverLock | Rotem Rylski | Made with love

Lately I find myself daydreaming about my childhood and the memories from back then. Rotem’s story touched a soft spot right there and then.
“Few years ago I found a suitcase full of cloth leftovers at my grandma’s closets, for some reason I just couldn’t throw them away (in psychology that’s called “Attachment”, when you can’t say goodbye to an object). I started reading about the “Attachment Theory” which led me to make these adorable creatures…”.

Student Break | Orly Montag | Made Of China

Orly is a 2010 Graduate of the Ceramics and Glass Department of Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.
Orly’s 105 creatures are all about industrial duplication and the world of singular art. “Consumerism that includes mass production, led me to explore the possibilities that come from combining a mass produced product and a singular work of art. The process tries to define an infinite circle, that begins with the artist and his momentary creation steps to the industrial world and back to the artist whilst testing my identity as an artist and designer in the ceramics field”.

Jenny Meilihove | Tiny People

Jenny has the magic touch.
If her name rings any bells you’ll remember that I wrote about her portraits a while back.
Today I stumbled upon her “Toys Dreams” Etsy shop. Her dolls are as cute as it can get! Each doll is one of a kind and handmade by the magic hands of miss Jenny.

One On One Break | Two Industrial Designers | Self Portrait

  • Head in the sand
  • Oh boy
  • Head in the Sand
“Two industrial designers” are Ran Kazes and Liran Elbaz.
Their limited-edition collection of unique, handmade dolls made we want to crawl to bed and hug my own “Head in the sand” doll.
Each and every doll was created with a zero waste policy, out of leftovers from the upholstery and fashion industry (One man’s dirt is another man’s treasure…)
The guys are working on their own web site but until then the dolls are waiting for you at their Etsy Shop.

www.two-idesigners.com

I’d love to hear about you, your journey, how it all began.
We are both graduates of the Industrial Design Department of Shenkar College of Engineering and Design. After working for several years for leading design companies we decided to open our own studio. Two Industrial Designers studio was founded in 2009 and creates self-initiated projects as well as providing full design services.TwoDesigners
Can you describe your work process for me?
It all begins with characterizing and research. From there we start developing the form till we get to the final products and prototypes. The process varies from product to product. The level of complexity of the process differs for medical products, toy or furniture design.
The dolls portray life in Israel. We named the collection “self-portrait” because each doll reflects our own personal portrait and social phenomena that bothered us at that time.

Ayanaki | Ayana Nissan | Colorful Touch

  • Line Dolls
  • Summer Dolls
Last week I ran into Ayanaki’s printed dolls. I have to admit that those dolls melted my heart! Ayana says that by making those dolls she is mixing two of her favorite love, illustration and sewing. You should take a closer look at those lined dolls… I love the way Ayana uses those lines!
Her Flickr page can be your color fix of the day.
BTW, one of Ayana’s favorite illustrators is the talented Yoko Furusho.
Ayana, Thank you for this one!
As you can see I love finding out about designer’s inspiration. I’d love to hear about yours as well.

Student Break | Keshet Levy Tavor | In Your Dreams

Last week I visited the Holon Institute of Technology mid term exhibition.
One of the items that caught me eyes was Angie.
“Angie seems like a sweet and harmless little girl with an angelic smile and a cute little rabbit in her hand. But the shadows conceal Angie’s trough nature, behind that innocent smile lays a dark shadow. Every Angie doll has a different shadow that tells a distinctive story about her inner demons, about her dark and devilish side, a side that no one will expect to find in a sweet little girl.”
Angie is part of the Mini-me exhibition. You can find lots of cute Mini-me over there :)
