Shelly Dahari | Calling All Beetles
Over the weekend I bumped into the sweet Shelly Dahari and her Beetles mini collection.
I don’t think I know of a word, which can describe how I felt the minute I laid my eyes on them! For real, I couldn’t move for quite some time… So colorful, bright and dramatic, all at the same time. Just like me ;)
Since then (and it was on Friday), I can’t stop thinking about the yellow beetles and the blueish beads. Do you think I should do something about it?
I sure am!

World Break | Design + Conquer Jewelry | Jukebox Madness

For her brand new collection, Morgan Mallett aka Design + Conquer Jewelery, followed the beat of electronic music. How brilliant is that! I can imagine Morgan dancing around her studio, transforming her dance moves into work of art. Who can argue with the sound of music mixed with neon touch?!
And the most exciting part is that each and every piece is inspired by a specific track. Heck yeah!
I’m gonna have a look at some of Morgan’s music choices. God knows I have zero understanding in electronic music. BTW, I was introduced to Morgan’s world in boticca.com.

It happened once before so why not again. Coming your way are two posts about only one designer!
As of now, Morgan Mallett the wicked gal behind Design + Conquer, is the one to beat. Graphic designers, who make the transition into the world of accessories, are my heroes! And as one of those, Morgan brings so much versatility and awesomeness to the table. As I see it, coming from the graphic design world gives her a great advantage! I got so excited that I didn’t mention my massive crush on the colors, shapes… well, all of it, from beginning to end!

Sharon Vaizer | Plasticious Creatures

Does the name Sharon Vaizer ring any bells? If not, it means you are a new breaker, so welcome aboard :)
Anyways, since graduating from design school back in 2009, Sharon took her graduation project, FUN-ta-sea, to the next level.
Her collection is plastic perfection!
If you ask me, any piece is a definite show stopper.
Just the other day I had the pleasure of trying it on, and boy do I LOVE it all.
Life under the sea never looked so friendly before.

Keren ve Michal | Waterfall. Not the Watery One

Michal Nir, half of the “Keren ve Michal” duo, is the one responsible for these minimalistic necklaces. Michal, a trained fashion designer, had the urge to experiment with jewelry making. So, what does a fashion designer with no training do? She takes the first material on sight, in her case the one which she often uses as a bases for her clothing patterns and… After playing with geometrical shapes Michal got the perfect most desirable waterfall necklace ever! I can tell you just here and now, this is the only waterfall I need in my life! BTW, Keren ve Micha’s facebook page is a fun place to be in. You should check it out.

Kulla Design | Light Up Your Table

A while back I wrote about Stools. The 50% sawdust version. “A measured mixture of the two materials is pressed into an aluminum mold and then baked.
The heat creates a homogeneous connection without using any adhesives.” Since then, the girls behind Kulla Design worked on a new addition to their 50% sawdust family of products. I would definitely add those two cuties to my work table any day of the week.
Can’t wait to find out what will be the next addition. I just love it when you get good design in small portions ;)

Malinca | Mali Hollander | Frozen Color

Mali Hollander is a recent graduates of the Textile Design Department at the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design.
Since graduating, Mali worked on developing a unique textile material, which gives her the freedom to play with endless varieties of textures and colors. As Mali points out, her textures look like frozen color movement.
Each bag can serve as your daily dose of color. Don’t you agree?
BTW, I adore Malinca’s logo. That’s the web designer in me talking ;)

One On One Break | Me-Dusa | Under The Sea

Gili Rozin and Adi Singfer are working in full gear! The two graduated two years ago and since then they are unstoppable.
A while back I wrote about them but I felt like I need to know more about these driven ladies. Their ever growing collection of bags, jewelery and laptop cases is a sea of color, fun and madness.

BTW, the girls of DreedTea.com had a Me-Dusa party. Don’t miss it. It’s lots of plastic fun ;)

I’d love to hear about you, your journey, how it all began.
Me-Dusa is a new brand that we founded in 2009 after graduating from the Jewelry Design Department at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design.
Our mutual work began from friendship during our studies and led us to try and work together in the last year. It turned out to be a success when we became finalists in the ITS#8 competition in Triest, Italy, in the final year of our degree. At the end of our studding it was only natural that we will start working together.
MeDusa
Can you describe your work process?
The items are all handmade from processed plastic, through an industrial technique that is not traditionally used for jewelry and accessories. The process from it’s begging to it’s end takes place in Israel and the designer takes part in every step.MeDusa
I’d love to here about your medusa collaboration. How does it work and who does what?
In every good collaboration, we think, every one contributes the best way he can. In Me-Dusa we work on the design part together and the rest of the things that need to be done we split between the two of us. For Me-dusa to work well it takes the two of us, we are very different and this is what makes Me-dusa.MeDusa
Which materials do you work with?
Plastic which is processed by us and metal parts.MeDusa
What is the most unusual piece you have ever designed?
We have a good friend who is a singer performing in Israel around the world, she asked us to make her special accessories for her show. It was this big necklace\top that covered all the top part of her body. It was colorful and original. just what she needed for a special show.MeDusa
What’s next? What is your dream?
That question is in our minds all the time… We hope to develop as a brand, that will be seen all over the world. We have several new bags and have many ideas for more, and maybe even do accessories for the house, furniture and more…MeDusa
If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?
Go outside, see people, look for new ideas and inspiration.MeDusa
I’m curious to know where does your inspiration come from?
Our inspiration comes from a rich world of imagination. The items feature floral elements, amorphous shapes and a unique sense of textile, nature and the sea.MeDusa
Can you tell me which designers inspire you?
AlexanderMcQueen, Hussein Chalayan, Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte and many many more.MeDusa
Can you tell me which websites and blogs do you visit regularly?
NotCouture, The Cool Hunter/Fashion, Jak&Jil Blog and many many more.MeDusa
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t take advice from strangers!!!MeDusa

Kulla Design | Mix and Match

I’m all about experiences and new adventures, that’s why I get excited every time I witnesses a new design process. The kulla girls developed a new working process based on researching and combining two worlds of materials: sawdust and used polythalyn plastic bags.
“The ability to combine plastic waste and sawdust into a homogenous mixture, without the need for other connecting materials is the essence of our research.”
I love the final outcome… The mix of colors and the little typographic details.

Student Break | Shahar Kagan | PlasticLab

PlasticLab is all about the side effects and failures of the plastic industry. Shahar’s journey started with Hans Christian Anderson’s the “steadfast tin soldier” and ended with his investigation of errors in manufacturing.
I don’t know if it’s just me but I feel like each lamp is some kind of little creature frozen in time… or maybe it’s my imagination working over time as usual.
Oh, Shahar is a 2010 graduate of the Industrial Design Department at the Holon Institute of Technology.
You can see and read more about Shahar’s fasinating journy right here.
You can get in touch with Shahar here:

Me-Dusa | Your Next Plastic Clutch

If you live here in Israel, there is no way you could miss Me-Dusa’s plastic madness. The girls, Gili Rozin and Adi Singfer, who graduated only last year from the Jewelry Design Department of Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, know how to rock it!
One of my first posts here at DesignBreak was the graduation project of Gili, called Music Box. In a way, it feels like closure to me. This is the early bird from their latest collection… I can’t wait to see what they will come up with. You can read a Hebrew friendly interview with the girls here.
BTW, Me-Dusa means Jellyfish in Hebrew.

Student Break | Noga Manor | TENSILE

Noga is a 2009 Graduate of the Industrial Design Department of Shenkar College of Engineering and Design. Noga designed lighting fixtures that combine special plastic elements manufactured using technology she developed. “I developed a unique method of processing polymers which creates plastic objects that are, in form, truly organic. In the process there is a delicate balance between control and chaos, and as in nature no two objects are identical.”
