Student Break | Michael Tsinzovsky | Local Design

  • Asli | A Laser Cut Veneer Stool
  • Coexistence | Metal vs. Wood
  • Asli | A Family of Stools
“Local Design” is a shot in the right direction for a new set of ideas. Coexistence of society and nationalities, ornament and construction, craft and design, metal and wood, east and west, geography and nationality. Michael Tsinzovsky, a graduate of the Industrial Design Department at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, had almost an impossible task at hand. “A young country without long tradition of arts and crafts, that tries to be European in the center of the Middle East”, it’s quite surprising he didn’t get lost along the way.

Studet Break | Max Cheprack | Oriental Clay

Imagining a ginormous machine, so you’ll be able to fulfill your vision, is one thing, actually building it, is a whole other story! I guess Max Cheprack likes to go the extra mile, his extrusion clay research led to a line of stools. I can tell it was a long and overwhelming journey. By Pushing clay through a Muslim inspired template Max created these unique stools and opened a door to some new possibilities and adventures in the ceramic world.
Here is a glimpse inside the process.
Max is a graduate of the Industrial Design Department at H.I.T.

Israelis@MilanDesignWeek | Shir Atar | Animated Stools

Shir Atar’s Elevation Stools are being exhibited simultaneously at the Post Fossil exhibition in the Design Museum Holon and at the Promise Design 2001 during Milan Design Week.
I’m pretty sure he is a happy man at the moment.
“Elevation, is a family of stools made from recycled, non-woven yarns. Inspired by country landscapes, hills and mountains; this project explores new uses for traditional technology and raw materials.”
When I first laid my eyes on Shir’s fluffy stools it looked like some kind of hairy animal of some kind. I must admit that I’m loving her muted color pallet!

Kulla Design | Mix and Match

I’m all about experiences and new adventures, that’s why I get excited every time I witnesses a new design process. The kulla girls developed a new working process based on researching and combining two worlds of materials: sawdust and used polythalyn plastic bags.
“The ability to combine plastic waste and sawdust into a homogenous mixture, without the need for other connecting materials is the essence of our research.”
I love the final outcome… The mix of colors and the little typographic details.

Student Break | David Keller | Joyful Stool

I got a nice surprise in my mail box today from David. His “Axum and Lalibella” stools were inspired by his daily observation at a center of immigrants from Ethiopia. David’s joyful and colorful stool is upholstered with a rough, almost “impolite” Ethiopian fabric. The rubber joints are hard and aggressive. The stool is forced to be pleasant and comfortable, no matter if it wants it or not.
While those immigrants live there for many years it seems to David that they developed dual, Israeli-Ethiopian culture just like his stools.
BTW, David is a M.des student at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.
