Raw-Edges | Tex-tiled Ceramic
Lately I have an unexplained attraction to textiles. I guess that’s why the minute I stumbled upon TEX, I had to share it with you. But let’s start at the beginning… TEX is a ceramic tile collection inspired by textiles’ textures designed for Mutina by Raw Edges. “The shape of the tile is a simplified enlargement of the basic knitted stitch: when looking carefully into a knitted textile, a repetition of stitches can be seen aligned in symmetric rows next to each other.” Yael and Shay, the two behind Raw Edges, are a big mystery to me since they work their asses off in their London studio and that’s why they don’t have time to be seen online…

Maya Shalev | Bagging and Bagging
Do you know the song: “if you love somebody, set them free…”?
I think I’m in love with this bag since forever (it’s texture is everything!) and I’m having a hard time letting go.
I think I won’t be able to leave it behind me, and the only way out is to actually buy it. The only problem I see is, that Maya Shalev, the one responsible for this beauty, won’t stop!
She keeps on coming up with brilliant designs, bag after bag after bag

My Japanese Break | Hiroko Takahashi | Follow The Bright Light
One of the things that keeps me going are the butterflies that come to visit inside my stomach once in a while. And let me tell you something, nothing can beat this exciting feeling! While visiting the 2k540 Aki-Oka Artisan in Tokyo I experienced something which I hadn’t for a long time. I bumped into Hiroko Takahashi’s kingdom, and boy what a magical kingdom it was. Lately Hiroko launched her Watermark series with the help of 3120 Mino Japanese Paper. The outcome is a variety of textured papers that will make you go ummm! I can’t add enough superlatives, just follow the bright light

Gertrud | Just The Right Amount Of Flow

Last week, I was lucky enough to have quality time with Shira Shir and Bella Gonshorovitz, the design duo behind the Gertrud’s sisterhood.
The two talked about the transition between the city life and the countryside as being the core for their 2011 Spring/Summer collection. I’m not much of a skirts and dresses kind of girl, but after looking up close and personal at the flowing fabrics, exciting textures and just the right mix of prints and colors I think it’s time to re-think it over.
BTW, Anat Steindler, the creative director of the brand did an ah-mazing job with the catalog. I wish I could show it to you somehow…

When you see magic coming your way, you just can’t miss it!
This is exactly how I feel when it comes to Núria’s world of texture, movement and color.
In her latest collection, which is called “candy”, Núria is making it about the stone itself! I feel like each stone gets it’s own center stage spotlight!
Núria’s blog and Etsy shop is up for grabs.

World Break | Ippolito | Yassou Greece!

Give it up for Pavlina Papailiopoulou who comes straight from Athens.
When she wrote me about her line I was very excited. First of all ’cause DesignBreak is being read in Greece! Secondly for her fine handbags. Her design is so minimalistic yet sophisticated. It looks like a bag that can serve you for life! I have to add that I adore the mix of textures. That’s what it’s all about.

Bakery | Jerusalem | Take Three

Another Bakery entry for the Time 02 is “Rock, Paper”. It deals with the duality of the Jerusalem stone as a representation of the city. The lamp shade is all about Smash (a non woven fabric) turned into Jerusalem stone texture. The uniqueness of Smash is in its “paperish” look together with its thermoplastic abilities. “The motivation for the use of a airy-paper look is due to the fact that paper is the opposite of the stone: light, temporary, delicate and translucent. The connection of a paper together with the stone aesthetics reflects our hopes for the future: A more delicate and light filled Jerusalem.” Amen for that!

Student Break | Inbar Alezraki | Textile Vibe

Inbar is a 2010 graduate of the Jewelry Design Department of Shenkar College of Engineering and Design.
Her graduation project “silver fleece” is all about finding the way to make the metal look and feel like textile.
If you’ll take a closer look you’ll find yourself staring at these intriguing textures that took a lot of research to come up with.
Inbar is fascinated by Giovanni Corvaja and I’m so happy she opened my eyes to all this beauty.

Nava Glazer | Texture Lady

What do you think about Nava’s use of textures? The raw materials she uses are vintage chains found in flea markets and taken apart from antique jewelry. I’m so glad she quit her day job as a fashion designer!
