Bet-Melacha | Urban Menorah
The minute I received in my inbox a glimpse into Liora Rosin and Nitsan Debbi’s menorah I couldn’t look away. For me, their menorah is more than just a menorah. It holds so many visual memories that I’ve been collecting in my heart and mind for as long as I can remember.
Influenced by the local architecture of the environment in which it was created, this menorah celebrates the urban Israeli culture. It captures the essence of the Israeli streets with their different windows, shutters, grilles and air conditioners and the light of the menorah is glinting through the blinds.

TypicaLocal | Johnathan Hopp | Tel Aviv, Strike a Pose!
  • The Local Collection | Tel Aviv
  • The Tel-Aviv-Jaffa city hall building | 69 Ibn Gvirol street, Tel-Aviv
  • Shalom Tower | 1 Echad Ha’am street, Tel-Aviv
  • The Local Collection | Typical box style tenement
  • The Local Collection | Bauhaus style tenement | 26 Rosh-Pina street, Tel-Aviv
“TypicaLocal miniatures attempt to create a snapshot of our environment here and now with a non-romantic gaze. This miniature exhibition provokes discussion and contemplation about design and architecture, about our local surroundings and about the time we live in.”
What can I say, Tel Aviv never looked so white and minimalistic. I think I like it this way ;)
BTW, the man behind all this white beauty is Johnathan Hopp.

Beta Tank | Eyal Burstein | Ceramic Scaffolding? Yes, Please!
There is someone out there, who is facinated by scaffolding and he goes by the name Eyal Burstein aka Beta Tank.
Eyal is working on a book that takes a “look at scaffolding from all over the world and discusses its effect on cities, also providing possible futures for scaffolding, aesthetically and even on an engineering level.”
I’ll be waiting for this book but in the meanwhile, I can’t help but admire Eyal’s ceramic take on scaffoldings.

Lee Coren | A Pattern of a City
I’m not really sure where I first bumped into Lee Coren’s beautiful scarves, but as I can feel the autumn breeze starting, it’s time to start thinking about expending my scarf collection (hope the Mr. won’t read this specific line!). Lee’s Exformation – Local Environment project, and her adaptation to local icons in typical Israeli cities, were the base of her screen printed scarves. Curved window bars, white plastic shutters and mailboxes are the inspiration behind all these mysterious prints.
BTW, as I have some well known issues with bags, I had to share with you Lee’s dark and night time vibe bag as well.

Hadar Reuven | Welcome to the Dark Side
You probably remember Hadar Reuven from our January, Illustrated Break. Right?
Anyways, lately I discovered her illustrated Andromeda Sleeps. Well, to be honest, Hadar told me about it but either way it’s breathtaking! Trust me, this illustrated novel is one of those books that moves something inside you. It feels like a journey into the dark side and for some reason I can relate. Hadar with the help of Shachar Galek (the author) made the city life look SO damn lonely, scary and intense… If you want to own your own copy, you can!

When the most ordinary things in life become art work, you know you have a winner!

World Break | Blandine Luce | Urban Stories

It’s fascinating watching the urban interpretation of the city in Blandine Luce’s eyes. Her jewelry is like a constant reminder of the urban environment.
Lately Blandine began working with wood salvaged from demolition sites. She says she likes the idea of rebuilding from what has been destroyed.
All I can say is I’m gonna keep coming back for more ’cause it’s gonna be worth it!
