Studio Kahn | Toys Will Be Forever Toys
Mey and Boaz Kahn became parents a while back but not way back. I think that is a good thing, in fact that’s an ah-mazing thing because I have a feeling that that’s how their Herzl Collection was born…
Herzl is an open-ended collection of ceramic products which includes boxes, vases, candelabras and bowls. All the products are made by casting into molds made of cheap plastic toys from Herzl St. Tel Aviv…”
The two will reveal their intriguing collection next week at the brand new Fresh Design fair.
I’ll tell you more about this exciting fair next week!

NY Break | Bailey Doesn’t Bark | Mini Black and White Moment
Re Jin Lee is all I’ll ever want to be. This gifted lady knows exactly how to treat each and every object with lots of TLC. And you want to know what’s the best part? She does it all using black and white (oh well, sometimes gold snicks in). After gushing over previous adventure a while back, I couldn’t wait a minute longer before writing about Re Jin’s mini series of b&w ceramic beauties. “Mini Series is a result of spending countless hours in the studio letting my inspirations transform into functional art without limitations, except: keeping it small & simple.” Yep, she kept everything small & simple, alright!

Yaara Landau-Katz | The Aging Bowls
Whenever a super exciting creation lands in my inbox I have this on going dilemma, should I or shouldn’t I write about it and publish right away? Well, I guess today was one of those days. This morning I received this super sweet email written by Yaara Landau-Katz, in which she shared with me her Three colors journey. The question “should I” or “ shouldn’t I?” left my mind after a split second… With Yaara’s new bowls, she is stacking up the colors as she dips the bare ceramic in glaze and the end result is a pretty one!
FYI, I still LOVE Yaara’s graduate project. Just saying…

Batia Malka | Newborns
Ever since I first discovered Batia Malka’s ceramic world, almost two years ago, I can’t get enough of it. Usually Batia deals with lots of difficult and sensitive matters but for some reason that’s exactly why I’m mesmerized by it time after time. All these baby heads and body parts assembled together feel like a pretty crazy state of mind and I’m sure that one day I’ll have to set up a coffee date with Batia and ask her lots of questions…

Student Break | Sovar Lerner | Ceramic Mutant
I should have pushed the “publish” button a long time ago but I just waited for the perfect pictures and finally they arrived to my inbox!
Sovar Lerner is one of those who made me stand and stare at their white ceramic sphere for quite a long time during the 2012 graduation show at the Bezalel Academy. Sovar refers to herself as a cultural mutant. East, West, Persian, Polish and a Russian. All of her mixed roots come to life in a series of ceramic mutants that represent the cultural differences that are part of the Israeli society.

Romi Hefetz | Little Brown Ceramic Bag
I’m a huge fan of Romi Hefetz ever since I found out about her existence. AND… when you love someone you keep waiting for more and more… SO, after wanting and waiting for new developments to come from the Hefetz HQ, I’m super excited to share with you Romi’s new paper plants. There is something quite simple yet elegant in the way Romi approaches working with clay and the end result is one pretty ceramic party.

PS. The Envelope series is not too shabby as well!

World Break | Zuppa Atelier | Black Ink and a Dash of Color
Something in the way Julia Dely illustrates reminds me of my favorite childhood books. It’s not that easy to take you back in time with only an illustration… Times in which everything was Innocent and not so complicated. Times in which all you had to do is decide if you want to play in the sand box or read a book… Anyways, Julia’s Zuppa Atelier is a place in which I find the inner child in me. Her sensitive illustrations find a home in these white and welcoming tableware. A lot of black ink and a dash of color, that’s the right combination in my book!

Studio Ve | Dance Through Time
Shay Carmon and Ben Klinger have done it again!
These two, who go by the name Studio Ve, know a thing or two about clocks. I mean, they are the ones behind the Manifold Clock!
With that being said, let me introduce you to their new BRILLIANT clock and say hello to the Lithe Clock. I don’t think that I have the right vocabulary to express my feelings toward this beauty! Elegant, sensitive, fragile, smooth, soft and light are just few of the adjectives that run through my mind… I’m not going to add a single word, you should hear it all for yourself and watch their oh so dreamy kickstarter campaign.

Raw-Edges | Tex-tiled Ceramic
Lately I have an unexplained attraction to textiles. I guess that’s why the minute I stumbled upon TEX, I had to share it with you. But let’s start at the beginning… TEX is a ceramic tile collection inspired by textiles’ textures designed for Mutina by Raw Edges. “The shape of the tile is a simplified enlargement of the basic knitted stitch: when looking carefully into a knitted textile, a repetition of stitches can be seen aligned in symmetric rows next to each other.” Yael and Shay, the two behind Raw Edges, are a big mystery to me since they work their asses off in their London studio and that’s why they don’t have time to be seen online…

TypicaLocal | Johnathan Hopp | Tel Aviv, Strike a Pose!
  • The Local Collection | Tel Aviv
  • The Tel-Aviv-Jaffa city hall building | 69 Ibn Gvirol street, Tel-Aviv
  • Shalom Tower | 1 Echad Ha’am street, Tel-Aviv
  • The Local Collection | Typical box style tenement
  • The Local Collection | Bauhaus style tenement | 26 Rosh-Pina street, Tel-Aviv
“TypicaLocal miniatures attempt to create a snapshot of our environment here and now with a non-romantic gaze. This miniature exhibition provokes discussion and contemplation about design and architecture, about our local surroundings and about the time we live in.”
What can I say, Tel Aviv never looked so white and minimalistic. I think I like it this way ;)
BTW, the man behind all this white beauty is Johnathan Hopp.

World Break | Room for Emptiness | Illustrated Lines
I once tried to paint on the cute Munny by KidRobot. Trust me when I say that it was far from pretty! I’m only sharing with you this dark little detail because I bumped into the illustrated world of Lena Hanzel and I felt like I found someone who can do an awesome job! Lena, the one behind Room for Emptiness (I’m in love with her brand name), only needs a black marker and a few white ceramics and she is ready to go. If only I could buy each and every piece, my life would be complete…
BTW, Lena’s creations remind me of Roni Brot’s Illustrated Break.

Student Break | Hadar Glick | And Then They Where Six (Vases)
A loss is always a loss. Hadar Glick designed a series of six vases, each deals with the emotions that revolves around memory and loss. “In contrast to flowers, which wither and fade away with time, the vases are constant and serve as an eternal testimony of our memories.” Hadar’s goal was to allow people to express the memories of their loved ones at their own home… In a country which deals with death and grief from time to time, I find it hard not to appreciate the way Hadar puts her heart and soul into this super sensitive work of art. BTW, Hadar is a graduate of the H.I.T.

NY Break | Kim Westad | Swirl and One Two Three…
There is a slight chance that too many episodes of America’s Next Top Model, left a big impact on me… and although my ANTM days are over, their constant use of the word “Swirl” left a mark. Yep, I like swirly things and especialy ceramic ones! I have a feeling that Kim Westad is a professional swirler, there is no other way to explain her flawless twists and turns.

Student Break | Hadas Tirosh | Clay Room
Have you ever entered a room that all you can find in it is furniture made of clay?! I have!
This bizarre experience happened during my visit to the graduate show of the Bezalel Academy. Hadas Tirosh, a graduate of the Ceramics and Glass Department, decided to challenge herself and create a room (yes, a room!) full of ceramic everything. From trashcan to chair, to desk to lamp shade to books… all in a 1:1 scale (!!!) How ridiculous is that? I’m not really sure what the idea behind it is, but then again, I’m not sure I want to know!

Beta Tank | Eyal Burstein | Ceramic Scaffolding? Yes, Please!
There is someone out there, who is facinated by scaffolding and he goes by the name Eyal Burstein aka Beta Tank.
Eyal is working on a book that takes a “look at scaffolding from all over the world and discusses its effect on cities, also providing possible futures for scaffolding, aesthetically and even on an engineering level.”
I’ll be waiting for this book but in the meanwhile, I can’t help but admire Eyal’s ceramic take on scaffoldings.
